My boy RetOne put me on to this last night. No idea where this came from, but I avoided sleep to bump it. The artist, I.V.A.N, dropped this on Valentine’s Day, but being a newbie to him it slipped under my radar. First of all, the title- Never Marry a Musician- stop’s you in your tracks (*message*). Then, once play is pressed, you become intrigued with just how different it sounds. Especially when one would assume by the sonically dark & synth heavy music he was an overseas artist. Well thanks to google, I look at his twitter and it says “San Fransisco/ Los Angeles”. Throughout Never Marry a Musician I.V.A.N alternates between singing & rapping as he relays his tales of love (and the drama that comes with it.)
I’m really diggen it! Take a listen to Suddenly, one of the stand out tracks below.

Who are “The Weeknd” you ask? Other then telling you they’re Canadian (thanks google) I have NO friggen idea. To be honest I’m not even sure if its a group or person. All I can tell you is they (or he?) dropped their (or his?) House of Balloons mixtape roughly 4 weeks ago and since I first pressed play on it, I haven’t been able to stop. The sound is like something I haven’t heard before yet feels oddly familiar… comfortable…easy…emotional…urgent. My fav tracks on this project are High for this, What you need, The party & the after party and Loft Music… but actually…EVERY track is dope.
*Sigh* I don’t like not knowing more about them (or him?) but I am so in love with this project right now I’m just gonna go with it. Whatever.
Take a sec to DL House of Balloons when you click HERE, and take a listen after the jump…

Apparently I’ve been sleeping. But now with the release of the Inspired ep I am becoming very familiar with Language Artz female fiyah spitter Raven Sorvino. The Texa-Cali transplant draws on inspiration from the late great Aaliyah and brings us her solo ep, Inspired. Looking at the pretty face on the cover art, you might expect to hear some sweet sing-along raps. Trust me, you wont. She exercises her vocab quite creatively and instantly you’ll realize you want to hear what else she has in store.
Check out Track list, DL link, and Pistol Etiquette interview after the jump!

If you haven’t yet discovered her on your own, I’m very excited to pull your ear to the very talented Los Angeles native Lady G Da Real Deal. On the low, Lady G has writer credits that include Snoop Dogg and T.I (to name a few), but aside from what she is able to pen for other people, Lady G has been steadily hitting the streets with solid music over the past couple of years. After first meeting her ages ago at the studio of 1500 or nothin, It seemed like everywhere I went there was an OG or a newbie speaking up about how dope she was. This past year Lady G managed to get spins on Los Angeles’ Power 106, hop on prominent projects (including Here, My Dear!) and get in the studio to put together a very solid offering of her own.

There is quite the new music scene goin on round these parts. They call themselves New Houston, and collectively they have been taking over your radio dial. Marcus Manchild, Propain, Kirko Bangz & Just Brittany each have bangin single’s, great looks, songs that can fit in every region & Co- signs from some of your favorite people. No they’re not a group, each person I named has their own clique/ movement and their own sound; but together they represent a kind of unity that’s refreshing and rare. I have had the chance to see each one of them perform (in front of 30,000 people no less) and I must say…whatever “it” is…all of em got it. I’ll keep you posted on their new projects but in the meantime peep their current single’s/ video’s after the jump!
