So this week I got a very interesting call while I was on air. A man called me back to back…to back to share with me what he considered vital information….

Tupac, he says, is the second coming of Christ.

Now keep in mind…I love Tupac…probably more then most…but JESUS CHRIST was not making songs like Thug Passion & You Ain’t Sh*t without ya homeboyz. GTFOH….LOL.

All I can say is…it’s about time somebody said something.

A couple weeks ago video surfaced of FunkMaster Flex making negative comments about the late Tupac Shakur while on stage at a show. All I heard in response was *crickets*. Then a couple days later, Flex responded to the video with his rational behind the comments. Again *Crickets*. (peep recap of both)

Let me let it be known that yes I am biased. I am a hard core West Coast representress & Tupac is the reason I love Hip Hop. BUT aside from that bias I’m also someone that finds it absolutely disgusting to hear another person speaking ill of the dead. Does Flex, or anyone else for that matter have to like Tupac or his music? Hell no! But see, that’s not where my issue comes into play.  I could care less weather or not you think Tupac or Biggie was the better artist, my problem is that Flex once again pitted the West against the East by in the same breath saying “I don’t f*ck with Tupac” and then “Let’s play some Biggie Smalls!” My issue is that, when flex finally decided to respond to the footage, he puts on his sensitive voice and acts as if he is MLK all of sudden saying things like “Tupac brought a very negative vibe to Hip Hop”….WHAT? EXCUSE ME? So says one of the biggest Beef supporters in the game! Didn’t Flex help end the career of Ja Rule? Doesn’t Flex daily say disparaging things about ppl on the radio? Didn’t Flex choke out a female co-worker & then get sued for it? And didn’t flex get on the stage and disrespect a man that’s been dead over a decade?

Uh yah…thats what’d I’d call bringing positivity to Hip Hop.

I was so hurt that the blogs and sites either chose to ignore the situation all together or give fluffy comentary.

I was so hurt that NO ONE on the West Coast spoke out.

And I was so hurt that someone so loved my millions, someone that was the voice of a generation could be disrespected by a major figure in hip hop & then be give the *Kanye Shrug*.

Had our DJ Legend, Julio G said something similiar about Biggie….The sites, the mags, the twitteratie would have been all east coast everything.

SMDH.

Tupac Shakur changed my life.

That’s a big statement but I meant every word.

Everyone in this industry has a moment where they realized they loved music. For me, that moment was hearing the album “All eyez on me.”

Granted this was not his first album, or even the first time I’d heard hip hop. However this was the first time that I found myself moved by music. Pac has been called a lot of things. And his legacy leaves a lot of  questions and debates. But for me, Tupac represented humanity in its purist state. Yes, he was a walking contradiction. But in his contradictory songs he showed me that it was okay to be flawed. His music represented every emotion we go through: Happiness, sadness, jealousy, anger, hatred, hurt, joy, love, sorrow, remorse, revenge, understanding, inspiration. EVERYTHING. And while its debatable depending on your region of upbringing and personal preference; Tupac Shakur, in my life, is the greatest artist of all time, and I am eternally grateful for the influence his music has had on my life.

Happy Birthday Pac.

Today marks 13 years since Tupac was murdered. He was one of the most misunderstood, talented, controversial, and creative people to ever grace this earth. Not to mention, in my opinion the greatest rapper of all time. Through he music he was able to convey every human emotion. He was extremely contradictory yet beautifully vulnerable.

I lived most of my musically conscious life to him.

HE WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED!
